We were paying for our own medical insurance in these years so that adds up to a nice start for itemization as well as some education costs. We are a family of 3 with 2 celiacs and our grocery "overage" was right around a $1000 in '12. '13 will be at least that or more I suspect - the son grew like 5 inches in a year! Most of the GF specialty items are for the growing son, the adults in the house mostly eat whole foods but some almond flour gets in there too. I personally think the current code is burdensome and we should simply be able to deduct the full cost of all of our gluten-free foods. When it comes right down to it, some of the price differences are so great that we might as well and the hours it takes to compare every glutenfree item to its conventional counterpart are onerous. For some situations, it may be helpful, though.
